Disney Family movie night: Mickey's Treat and the Little Einsteins

We were going to watch Haunted Mansion but I couldn't get it so...
We had a last minute change and stuck with our original food but watched Mickey's Treat and

Little Einsteins Halloween instead.

That worked out fine because Abi loves both of those...
We had hot dog mummies, ghost potatoes, the leftover witch's fingers which we just decided not to put the almonds in and pretend they were Leo's batons.
We also had frozen banana ghosts and ghost juice (milk)

Abi being Pluto...

For our activity we put together a haunted gingerbread house..

It turned out very 'interesting'.

We ended the night by lighting our jack o lanterns for the first time..

A date with Abi

It has become kind of a tradition for Doug or I to take some time with Abi on Saturday to do something one on one. Either I take her somewhere or I take Maddy with me to run errands while Doug and Abi play with Legos and watch cartoons.
Yesterday Abi and I went out.
We participate in Pizza Hut's Book It program so we needed to go get her free personal pan pizza for October.
We got it take out and went to the gas station to get drinks. We then drove over to a really nice park that for some reason is never crowded. We had a little picnic in the car and then got out to play..

We spent over an hour just playing and running around. It was a lot of fun.

We made friends with this little caterpillar..

There was a 'Little House on the Prairie' moment when Abi kept running back and forth .... (notice how she is completely off the ground in this picture!)

and completely crashed...

We then went to the little toy store and Abi picked out a gift for Maddy's first birthday. What a fun day!

Trunk or Treat

Friday night we had our annual ward Trunk or Treat at church. We were all so excited to go! The decorations this year were great and so festive!
Our little mouse was taking it all in..

Abi had fun wandering around looking at all the costumes and decorations..

A funny story: Before we went Abi was asking me what I thought her friend Alisse would be for Halloween. She thought she would be a fairy princess like Abi was being. Last year she was really excited that they were both witches so I guess she assumed they would always end up being the same thing. I couldn't picture Alisse dressing up as a fairy.  So, Alisse showed up and was
Megatron- the bad transformer...
the look on Abi's face was hilarious. I wish I would have captured it.

After a yummy chili dinner and a costume parade and contest, we went outside to do some trunk or treating. There were some really cool set ups this year..

Here Abi was doing a ring toss game..

While Abi and I went around Maddy just hung out in the car (it was really cold) but she was perfectly happy because she had a glow bracelet they gave out to all the kids! She loved that thing!

It was another fun year!

School: Haunted houses, trick or treating, and Halloween

Friday we spent lots of time reading halloween books.
We played Halloween "Ghost" (Bingo)

She did a P worksheet

We enjoyed the Halloween flannel board story "Halloween night"

We got out this Halloween wood set I bought at Hobby Lobby and painted the house and the trick or treaters..

the finished product...

We made some more paper haunted houses which Abi delivered teddy grahams to for some reason...

It was such a fun day.

School: Witches, Vampires, and Spiders

First off, I forgot to put this on yesterday. I put orange paint on the girls hands- they made a fist and I painted the pinky side of their hand and pressed it down- to make into pumpkins. I believe you can tell which is Abi's and which is Maddy's.

So, back to yesterday. We began with this book we got from the library. It was really cute. It was about a little vampire and a little witch going on a night ride on her broom. They don't believe kids exist and come across a Halloween party. Very fun.

Abi wore last years witch costume until she decided it was too itchy. She colored a witch..

that we cut out and made stand up..

I gave her a bunch of buttons and she had to find some matching ones for the witch's buttons.

We played this spider and clothespins game....

For snack we had Oreo and pretzel spiders...

Abi did this Spongebob witch puzzle..

We kept the theme going at dinner by having blood (tomato soup) and witch's fingers (breadsticks with an almond stuck in the end).

As soon as it was really dark outside and Maddy was asleep, we turned off all the lights in the house and played Vampire in the Dark.We each had to pick one of the cards and one of us would be the vampire. You couldn't tell anyone and then we all hid. If you were the vampire you had to wait for a few moments and then go looking for the others. When you find someone you have to whisper , "Vampires in the dark" and they have to scream and then help look for the next person. It was so much fun! We played about four rounds.

School: Pumpkins/Jack o' lanterns day

After the initial stories and songs I had Abi draw a trick or treater and then we read this little story together...

I found the link to this craft on lil mop tops.. it's a Mr. Pumpkin head. I cut out and laminated all the pieces so Abi can play with it as much as she wants... eventually I want to add magnets to it.

Then she needed to put these pictures in order of the life cycle of a pumpkin...

did some Pumpkin writing practice...

made a pie with pictures of things that start with 'P'...

a pumpkin number file folder games..

a pumpkin grid game...

later, we went outside to carve our pumpkins! We thought Doug would get home partway through but it turned out that we finished right as he got home. He didn't seem to mind too much.

Abi wanted to scoop the goop out of her pumpkin but thought it was really gross and only did it for a few minutes...

Maddy kept trying to eat pumpkin seeds..

Abi with her finished jack o lantern. I carved it following her instructions...

She drew a face on Maddy's for her...

Maddy does this thing all the time where she scrunches up her nose and breathes in and out really funny. I love it. Here is a picture of her doing it....

The finished jack o lanterns..

Maddy loved being able to just explore..

I made jack o lantern pizza for dinner...

After dinner we played the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown game...

then had a chocolate marshmallow jack o lantern for dessert!
