Pick a park: Wild West Park

Last week we went out to West Valley to swim with my brother and sister in law Karen. I decided to stop at the Wild West Park in West Jordan for the first time since we would be passing it.
It was a really cool park.

I thought we would stay a long time but because it was so hot the girls wanted to leave after about twenty minutes. We will have to go back when it gets cooler!
We got to the pool early so we sat in the car and had our picnic and then went swimming as soon as my family got there.
It is an awesome pool and really cheap to get into.

It was Root beer day so on our way home we stopped at A&W and got free root beer floats!

Ponies and Sales

A week ago Friday we went to Target after our normal grocery shopping.
I had promised Abi that on shopping day we would go to Target and get the My Little Pony Equestria Girls movie.
The girls were beyond excited.
We got to Target and they were all sold out.
So we went to Walmart.
We found one there. It was a couple dollars more than Target but we got it and took it home.
We got some popcorn.
We opened the movie and it was broken. In half.
I ended up calling a Target that is a little farther away to ask if they had it. They had one left so he held it for me.
Walmart gave me a hard time about replacing it but finally let me return it.
Alls well that ends well. The girls have watched it SO many times since then.

That Saturday we did a garage sale and Abi hosted her first lemonade stand. She was so excited to sell lemonade and candy and made pretty good money doing so.

Art Museum

The day after the hike we went to SLC to visit the Art Museum.
About 80% of the museum was native american/ cowboy art. There were some beautiful pieces but it got old kind of fast.
As far as the rest of the museum, there were some great paintings.  But there was also a lot of trash.
We did have fun for the most part. The girls were really restless.
I made them come up with names for any paintings we found that were untitled.
Abi called this one the  funny looking man.
I liked these paintings...
I really liked this one. It was a little too green but the effect was really cool.
The best part of the museum is the room we went to last. It was an artist studio.
The girls were able to do all kinds of art.

Next time we are going to try out the Springville one.

Maddy- a taste of what it's like with our little monkey

Hike: Grotto and Bridal Veil Falls

For our hike last week we went down to Payson Canyon to hike the Grotto trail. My mom came along with us.

Of course Abi was off in front of us most of the time.

It was a pretty easy hike but there were quite a few places where you had to cross the river on boards. Some were easy but some were wobbly and thin. That was a little scary because Maddy wouldn't do it herself so I had to carry her across and watch Abi hoping she wouldn't fall off into the rocks and river.
Plus I did something stupid that day. I got out my hiking shoes and put them by the door when I was preparing to go.  It wasn't until we were in the canyon that I realized I had put on my flip flops. Duh.
When we got to the Grotto there was a little cave like area. The rock walls went up pretty high.
A little waterfall came down into the grotto.
After this hike we drove to Provo Canyon and did the trail to Bridal Veil. It was a beautiful walk.

I had never been to the bottom of the falls before. It was really cool.

Art: Van Gogh

For our art lesson last week we did our own versions of Starry Night by Van Gogh.
The girls drew a moon with yellow crayon and then made swirls and lines all over their paper with other colors of crayons and used star stickers.

Then they used shades of blue watercolor to paint over the entire paper.

When they were done they added some personal touches.
As always, art day is one of our favorites!

Clark Planetarium

I was really excited to go the Planetarium again.
It is free to get in but then they have movies that you are charged for.  Last time we did not go to any movies. But my connect pass covered two movies so we were excited to be able to do those.
We explored the Planetarium while we waited for the movies to start...

Our first movie was a dome movie. It was really cute. It was about a family of aliens trying to find a planet to vacation on. They went past all the planets and taught about each one.
The girls really liked it and with the dome effect it made you feel like you were moving a lot.
Someone may have been a little dizzy...yeah that would be me.
But it was really fun.
We got the kids some treats and hung out at this table between movies because we had already seen the whole Planetarium. (It is very small)

Then we got in line and Maddy ran the back of her head into the corner of one of the movie poster things and cut it open a bit.
I was really worried she would need stitches when I was hugging her and pulled my hand back and it had blood all over it.
Luckily I was able to clean it up in a bathroom and then I applied pressure until it stopped bleeding.
It may have needed one stitch but it was able to heal without them.
The second movie was interesting but Abi was so scared she was crying.
It was about dragons... not sure why they had it at the planetarium but it was the only one at the time we were there and we didn't want to wait hours for the next one.
It was 3D and Imax so it was pretty frightening for her.
I ended up having to take her out.
All in all, even with cut open heads and scared children, it was a fun day.

Hike and Pick a Park: Provo Canyon plus Seven Peaks

This week our hike and park were just me and Abi.
She got a free ticket to Seven Peaks and I bought myself one with a groupon deal so we sent Maddy off to zoo day at my niece Mckenna's kid's camp and Abi and I went for a day of fun.
Seven peaks didn't open until 12 for us so we drove up Provo Canyon and did a little walk along the river for our hike.
Then we stopped at this park to play until it was time to go.

We went to Seven Peaks and swam for awhile.
We ended up having a great time. I'm not a huge fan of seven peaks but Abi really liked it.

Natural History Museum

Last week for our first outing we went to SLC to visit the Natural History Museum. I had been to it before but not since it moved.
It was great and one of their favorite outings so far.
They had a kid room that we spent a long time in. They were catching fish..
and they had a lot of little creatures in there to look at while you played.

I remembered this track from before so I made Maddy get in it.

They have a telescope or something that is watching the sun and you can watch it on this live. That was pretty cool.
You could go out on the roof and had an amazing view. They had solar panels all over it. There was a sign that said they get all their power from them.
Our last stop was the natural disasters area. At this spot they could jump up and down and it would show up like an earthquake.
They got to design volcanoes.

They had so many awesome things in there.
