Tricks or Treats

There is something to be said for being able to trick or treat at the houses of your school friends so I took the girls out yesterday after church for a little while. Of course I wish our weird town did trick or treating on the actual holiday but since they don't we just had to make a decision based on that.
I took only one picture but I love it because Abi is running away from Maddy as she tries to grab her mane and tail. Silly girls!

Jack o' lantern day

Saturday was our Jack o' Lantern day around here. We had a bunch of errands, dentist appointments, and chores in the morning but that afternoon we started our festivities by carving our pumpkins.
This year we only got one pumpkin at the patch. That was the pumpkin for Doug and I. When we opened it up it was totally rotten inside so it quickly went into the trash. The girls pumpkins, however, came from Walmart.
I got Maddy this witch set to decorate her pumpkin so she could do it by herself.

Abi wanted to do her pumpkin by herself this year too.

Maddy and her finished product...

Abi didn't want to do a stencil or anything so she just carved as she saw fit.

She was so proud of her finished jack o' lantern.
For movie night we watched 'It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown'. I made a 7 layer dip spiderweb and tried to make a spider out of black beans.
We also had Jack o' lantern quesidilla's.
Afterward we played a round of the Charlie Brown game.

One fun night!

Trunk or treat

This year Maddy told me she wanted me to dress up as a cat. I used to go all out for halloween but the past few years I have just worried about the girls and I usually go in a witch's hat. So, although I still just wore a black sweater and jeans, I decided to go a little more fun this year and be the cat she wanted me to be. I felt really silly at the Trunk or Treat but the girls loved it so it was worth it....
The girls waiting for dinner to begin. It was SO packed this year.
This crazy girl was getting so restless and at one point even poured her water over my head. Very naughty but it was so funny because she wasn't trying to be mean or naughty.
getting ready for the most important part of the night....

Pumpkin farm

Friday we went back over to the pumpkin farm. Abi hadn't had a chance to go to her favorite one yet so we spent about an hour there looking at the displays and playing with bubbles (their favorite part).

Hello Abi

Last week Abi had a few days off of school so on Thursday we had a major lazy day. We all stayed in cozy clothes all day and even had a popcorn/movie afternoon. At one point Abi became obsessed with doing hat tricks over and over again. Here are some pictures.

Legos

We love Legos. The girls play with them all the time but usually they don't sit down and play with them together so I was happy to see them the do it the other night. They played quietly with them for about 20 minutes before Maddy was running around again and it was heaven!

Abi made a train and a train station...
Maddy made a "berry berry big tower".

Fall Festival

Abi's school recently had the Family Fall Festival. We had a lot of fun there last year so we were excited to go again and to finally have our first Halloween activity. Abi got to wear her costume for the first time! She is very into My Little Pony and her favorite one is Rarity- the fancy fashion designer who is generous. They don't make costumes of Rarity so I knew I would have to make it. I didn't want the costume to turn into a unicorn like last years last minute one so we started planning.
I bought a white hoodie/ sweatpants set from Hanes and added felt ears, a felt horn, a felt cutie mark on the pants ( the 3 diamonds) and then a mane and tail of two shades of purple yarn.
here she is before going in...

Our scarecrow and Unicorn

First we got to trick or treat around the school to all the teachers....

Abi was pretty excited to trick or treat from her teachers. Mrs. Jensen is on the right and Miss Aubrey on the left.
Then they did some crafts and played some games. After that they were ready to leave. It was a lot of fun!

Playing around

Doug surprised me last week with a new camera. Our old one was dying. I had to hold the switch to normal when I took pictures so that it wouldn't be panorama. It would turn off randomly. The pictures were getting blurry more frequently. So, the new one is also just your average point and shoot but it is new and cute and red. The first day I had to play around with some of its features and take a bunch of pictures of the girls goofing off...

Fun night

Ever since we went apple picking I have been making all of our recipes that call for apples. We wanted to do caramel apples as well but I saw an idea for cutting them in slices first to make them easier to eat and thought it was brilliant!
Abi and I just finished reading The Witches by Roald Dahl last week so Monday night we watched the movie version and had our caramel apple bar. The girls had a lot of fun picking their toppings and they really were so much easier to eat... and so yummy!
