Random pictures
In the aftermath of the late over Abi used Daddy to show me what a camping bunk bed is...
Maddy has started doing so many things recently. She loves to sit on the bottom step of the stairs (and climb them constantly!), she carries this motorcycle around and other cars while making a rrrr sound, she makes a doggy sound, she said donut, she says "here mom", she blows kisses, and so many other things. What a cutie!
Abi was playing with her Mr. Potato Head parts and said, "Look Mom! HO. Ho. Ho."
Snow play
We had some of our first real good snow storms this past week and the girls finally got to go out to play in the snow. This was Maddy's first time.
At first she didn't know what to think...
Abi was so thrilled to be out in the snow!
Maddy started really enjoying it and was just laughing and talking and watching Abi make stuff...
I was trying to shovel while they played but after about ten/fifteen minutes Maddy took off her gloves. Then she was very unhappy! I had to take her back inside so I let Abi play by the front windows for a few more minutes so I could watch her but still be inside with Maddy.
Abi's late-over
For Abi's birthday party with friends we decided to do a late-over. She has become kind of obsessed with the idea of a slumber party but I wasn't sure if many of her friends would be allowed to have them, especially at their age so I suggested a late-over, telling her that we would do all the things we would do at a slumber party except the girls would go home to sleep. She was so excited.
The girls began arriving at 6:30pm all decked out in their cute jammies.
As soon as most of them were there (one girl had called to say she would be late) we got out the pizza and they began to watch Barbies 12 Dancing Princesses.
Our last girl arrived and I began putting rags in their hair while we watched the movie. All but two of them wanted them. It was so much fun. After each girl would get done they would run to the bathroom to see themselves and just start giggling.
Kaylee, Abi, Mimi, Alisse, Hailey, and Alissa
At this point we paused the movie to decorate cupcakes. I gave them each some frosting and Christmas sprinkles and let them do whatever they wanted to their cupcakes...
Then we put a candle in Abi's and sang Happy Birthday to her...
Abi then opened gifts from the girls. They all were so cute and excited about everything.
After gifts, we finished the movie and painted fingernails. Then Abi wanted to show them this little cat singing Jingle Bells on her Barbie's Christmas Carol movie. She thinks it is the funniest thing in the world so she couldn't wait to show them. Luckily they all found it as funny as she does...
Next we played Hello Kitty Twister...
It was about time for the girls to get picked up (9:30) so we gathered for a final group shot and then passed out their goodie bags (full of girlie stuff like nail polish and lip gloss along with some popcorn) and sent them home.
It was so much fun and although it was so easy and laid back with minimal preparation it was probably Abi's favorite friend party ever. She really wants to start having late-overs just for fun.
So, how did the rags work out?
Here is Abi's hair the next morning when I took them out...
We loved it! The curls stayed for two days.

Ballerina in training
Abi had her first ballet class on Monday afternoon. Doug's mom and dad got her the cutest little ballet bag and the lessons for Christmas. I signed her up just in time to start the winter session at the Recplex.
She was beyond thrilled and was completely fine being dropped off. A half an hour later when I went to pick her up she came out with the biggest grin on her face and immediately pointed one toe.
That night she showed Doug and I all the moves she learned. It was so fun to watch her. She was so happy.

Words to live by
After much consideration the word I have chosen for 2011 is

By using the word organize I don't mean that I just want to organize my kitchen better or keep a cleaner house, although those things are part of it.
I need to organize my entire life.
Friday I got a notice from our daughters pediatrician. It was the second time I have missed an appointment. I have no idea how I forgot AGAIN!
That is so not like me.
It made me feel embarrassed and irresponsible and very, very disorganized.
Why?
Because I thrive on organization and schedules.
This past year I have been all over the place.
Most days I felt like this:

For a year that had the word 'Peace' as its goal, that wasn't good.
There were peaceful moments and many peaceful breakthroughs but I found that I just expected too much of myself this year which left me feeling overwhelmed.
It didn't really hit me until October/November when my daily to do list hit an all time high.
All at once I was juggling being a wife and mother, trying to take time for myself, exercising, vision therapy, personal progress with Abi, blogging, other computer time suckers like facebook and email and surfing in general, creating my Little Women Personal Progress Program (yes, it is done but I need help getting it downloadable so I'm still working on that), planning our vacation, sewing clothes, getting ready for Christmas, sewing projects, preschool with Abi, Story Sorority (my online book club I run), church, cleaning, cooking, and a million other household things as well as so many things on the to do list that weren't getting done.
This left me feeling like I really needed to streamline everything.
I've been thinking a lot about it. I have tried to re-organize my thoughts and figure out what the most important things are to me.
I need to organize every area of my life so that it will all work together as smoothly as possible.

This means that my goal this year is to think "organized".
I need to organize the house. I have to find a system that works for me and for my family so that I am not constantly behind or cleaning. I feel like all I do is clean because I have some little 'helpers' that always want to undo what I just did. I am constantly re arranging furniture because I am not content with the set up. I need to organize rooms based on what we use them for... not based on what others will think if they come over or what is pretty. I can have a perfectly designed house later when my kids are grown. For now, I just want it clean and organized and useful.
I need to organize my time so that I have time to do the things I need to do but also have time to do the things I want to do. I want to be able to engage in a little more spontaneity without it throwing my whole day out of whack. Believe it or not I used to be really spontaneous and outgoing. Where did that girl go?
So, I will try to figure out a schedule that allows for all of these things while still keeping our household running smoothly.
I need to organize my time with my kids better. School takes over. It is so much work to teach Abi. I am actually looking so forward to Kindergarten- not because I want her to be away from me- but because of the time that will give me. That sounds so selfish. I feel selfish now. But preschool takes so much time. Not just doing it but the planning, the preparation, the studying. Everything. Also, it takes an entire area in our house that I will be able to use for something else until Maddy is three.
I started reading the Little House series to Abi last year and it has been one of the most rewarding things I've done. And yet we stopped when we left on vacation and have yet to pick it back up.
I am starting a new chore system with Abi that I think will help me to organize her chores better and help so much around here.
I know I will always be thinking about a trillion things at once and doing way more things at a time than I should but I want to keep that under control as much as possible.
This will be a work in progress the entire year, but hopefully by this time next year I will have accomplished just as much as last year but had a much more relaxing year!

You can see the update for the first part of day 5 below...
Christmas outfits
Last Sunday the girls wore their new Christmas outfits from Grammy and Grandfather to church. I love these outfits so much! They are so cute and I thought the girls looked so adorable in them. The only problem now is trying to get a picture of them in them....
Maddy look at me!
Abi look at me!
Oh well. They are still cute pictures!
Abi is always happy to have a photo shoot.
Here she is being a little monkey...
That night I put them in the new pajamas and was so surprised when Maddy happily went along with a picture!
