We knew we wanted to go apple picking this fall but I wasn't sure where we could go.
I called so many orchards and all of them said they couldn't let people pick their own apples.
Finally Doug's parents mentioned Farnsworth Farms in Sandy.
I had actually called them but there wasn't an answer any of the times I had called.
I decided to call again and this time the message machine came on and gave their hours for apple picking!
We were so excited.
The guy working in the "barn" gave us bags and told us they would be priced based on weight.
We headed out to pick...
It was an interesting experience. We got a trillion pokey things in our shoes because the ground was just weeds and the apples were really small... and hard to find good ones.
But we made the most of it and enjoyed being able to pick our own apples no matter the circumstances.
They had a little playground by the peach trees. You had to cross the field of death weeds but we did it.
Our mix of apples and peaches...
my cute mom playing in the airplane with Abi...
As we were walking back to pay, the Oscar Meyer weiner mobile came rolling in.
They let the kids go in it.
That was a really fun, unexpected treat.
After we were done we met the rest of my family at Chili's for lunch. So fun!

I assume they still do it, but Farnsworth always had a Great Pumpkin Festival for 3 weekends in October. You could go and buy hot cider and donuts, and sometimes some other things, and watch This is the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown that they projected outside. You could take blankets or chairs to sit in or on. The last time we went they also had a few venders selling things. And the playground area was free and they had wagon rides for cheap (not too special - they just take you around their orchard). But to watch the movie was always free. And they'd show it more than once in the evening so if you missed the first one you could watch the second one. It was always lots of fun!
In some ways Utah is just not Wisconsin but in others Wisconsin is just not Utah either. I always wish I could take all my favorite things about each place I have lived and roll them in to one. Way to be persistent and hunt down an orchard and even if it wasn't perfect, it helped to keep a tradition alive. And yay for the weinermobile because that would have totally made up for any disappointment.
It was fun going apple picking with you all .... and then enjoying lunch at Chili's!
